Service of Bacteriology
The mission of the Bacteriology Department is to diagnose bacterial infections in the hospital group comprising the Saint-Antoine, Tenon, Trousseau, Rothschild and La Roche Guyon hospitals. It also performs bacterial infection diagnostics for the City of Paris laboratories and the Bluets maternity hospital, and provides bacteriological expertise for the Etablissement Français du Sang.
The laboratory is organized into several sectors:
- Common reception with the parasitology-mycology laboratory
- A single J0 sector for carrying out microscopic examinations and inoculations
- Three J1 sectors of standard Bacteriology corresponding to the 4 hospitals of the Hospital Group (Saint-Antoine, Tenon and Trousseau/Rothschild): analysis of cultures and antibiograms.
- A mycobacteria sector with an L3 laboratory.
- A coproculture sector, Clostridium difficile.
Under the responsibility of Bacteriology Department biologists, serology activities are carried out in the virology laboratory at Saint-Antoine Hospital, and genotypic diagnosis activities for N. gonorrhoeae and C. trachomatis on the molecular biology platform at Hôpital Saint-Antoine.
The laboratory is open 7 days a week, and all samples are accepted from 8am to 6:30pm, with pick-up at the laboratory depending on the degree of urgency.
