The Robert Debré Clinical Investigation Center (CIC) is a functional hospital unit of the Robert Debré Hospital and an Inserm research unit (CIC1426). It is an integrated clinical research platform specializing in clinical pharmacology, pathophysiology and genetics on healthy control subjects and pediatric patients. The unit operates as a day hospital with dedicated beds and staff trained in clinical research, including pediatric physicians and pharmacologists, clinical research nurses and technicians, a laboratory and quality manager, and a secretary-manager. It was the first CIC to be set up in France in 1992, under the dual supervision of INSERM and the Direction Générale de l'Offre de Soins (DGOS).

The team has recognized expertise in conducting clinical trials on healthcare products (drugs, medical devices) in collaboration with specialty experts (neurology, child and adolescent psychiatry, neonatology, nephrology, endocrinology, pneumology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, pediatric onco-hematology and gynecology-obstetrics). To meet research requirements (regulatory, ethical, quality), the team provides clinical and medico-technical departments with its medical, methodological, pharmacological, logistical and data management skills to design and carry out innovative research projects in pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology. The care of participating children and their families, as well as pregnant women, is organized on the CIC's premises, enabling both their
usual medical care and clinical research procedures to be ensured. The team ensures the smooth running of publicly and privately sponsored research projects, conducted on site but also set up as part of national and international collaborations.
The CIC's activity is monitored by the administrative (ARS, DGS, ANSM...) and research (INSERM, DRCI) authorities, who ensure the quality of the research conducted there and the safety of the people taking part. The CIC holds all the regulatory authorizations required to conduct research protocols on children, adolescents and pregnant women. The CIC at Robert Debré is part of the French network of pediatric CICs (PedSTART network), accredited by the F-CRIN, and participates in European projects including the H2020 connect4children (c4c) European collaborative network to optimize the conduct of clinical trials in pediatrics.
