Service of General Pediatrics

The department has 3 units with a total of 40 beds for children aged 0 to 18, mainly from north-east Paris and the Ile-de-France region. Its mission is to provide a local service for the treatment of acute pathologies and the diagnostic and therapeutic management of rare diseases. The maximum capacity of 40 beds is guaranteed in winter for winter epidemics (bronchiolitis), and around 20 beds in summer.

Our population is highly diverse, both ethnically and in terms of social conditions. Recruitment (~ 2,000 stays/year) is therefore rich in genetic and infectious pathologies, a richness that is constantly increasing due to the migratory paths of families or unaccompanied minors.

Admissions are mainly via emergency, but also from outlying hospitals or on a programmed basis for patients with chronic illnesses. The department can accommodate up to 12 children from a continuing care unit.

The department is organized around 2 main areas:

  1. infectious diseases in children: infectious diseases operational team, which radiates throughout the hospital, tuberculosis consultation, international vaccination center, sosteo-articular infection staff
  2. inflammatory diseases in children: since 2012, the department has been a constituent site of the reference center for inflammatory rheumatism and rare systemic autoimmune diseases in children (RAISE) and was renewed in 2017. The active file includes around 600 children.

The department also welcomes almost all the sickle-cell-affected children of France's largest center (active file ~ 1,500 children) requiring hospitalization.

The department trains between 10 and 14 interns every semester, and 20 externs every quarter. The medical team is particularly involved in teaching at faculty level.
