Service of Geriatrics

The Geriatrics Department comprises an Acute Geriatrics Unit (UGA), a Medical Care and Rehabilitation Unit (SMR), an Intra-hospital Geriatric Mobile Team (EMGI) and two Extra-hospital Mobile Teams (EMGE), a Geriatric Peri-Operative Unit (UPOG) and a consultation service.

The Unité de Gériatrie Aiguë (UGA) is a 25-bed short-stay unit for polypathological elderly patients ( ≥ 75 years old) for the management of an acute pathology, a decompensation of a chronic pathology or, more specifically, a geriatric syndrome (repeated falls, acute confusion, malnutrition, wounds...).
Mainly admitted via the emergency department, direct admissions from the city are possible at the request of local GPs.

The Unité de Soins Médicaux et de Rééducation consists of 40 beds, accommodating patients ( ≥ 75 years old) who are polypathological, complex or in need of special technical care, coming from the Medicine and Surgery departments of Hôpital Bichat - Claude-Bernard.

The Unité Péri-Opératoire Gériatrique (UPOG) located in the Orthopedics department, provides medical management of comorbidities and perioperative complications for polypathological patients aged ≥ 75 with fractures, in collaboration with orthopedists.

A Equipe Mobile Gériatrique Intra Hospitalière provides diagnostic, therapeutic and referral advice for elderly patients (≥ 75 years) hospitalized in Bichat's medical, surgical and emergency departments.

The geriatric network also includes a Equipe Mobile Extra Hospitalière which operates in the city and in the emergency department. This team works in collaboration with the town's structures to optimize the care pathway.
