Service of Infectious and tropical diseases

Raymond-Poincaré University Hospital is a national center of expertise and referral for patients with severe disabilities, and infectious complications are a major risk of morbidity and mortality in this context. The University Hospital Center (CHU) is also the AP-HP's referral center for the management of osteoarticular infections. Infectiologists in Prof. A. Dinh's department are involved in the management of serious infections in disabled patients, and in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure optimal medical and surgical management of complex osteoarticular infections.

The department has 20 beds (2 sectors of 10 beds) at normal times, with the possibility of increasing this to 24 beds, with 5 beds dedicated to the management of highly contagious pathologies and/or patients carrying or infected by emerging Highly Resistant Bacteria (HRB). It participates in the regional infectiology on-call service and in the activities of the Comité du Risque Epidémiologique et Biologique (COREB) at national level, in liaison with the Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française (SPILF) and in partnership with the ARS IDF. Within the department, high-level clinical activity in infectious and tropical diseases is combined with a proactive approach to clinical and translational research in conjunction with research teams at Versailles-Saint-Quentin University.

The infectious and tropical diseases department regularly manages epidemic or major risk episodes and is developing two main fields of activity:

  • the management of risks linked to emerging epidemic phenomena, their hospital and public health consequences, and health safety issues with numerous scientific projects;
  • the management of nosocomial epidemics and the issue of bacterial multi-resistance to antibiotics by developing the cross-disciplinary infectiology activity.

A transversal infectiology activity is also being developed on the Raymond-Poincaré site, as well as on the Ambroise-Paré site and at the Curie hospital in Saint-Cloud to ensure the proper use of antibiotics in line with the national antibiotic alert plan 2011-2016 ( Dr. C. MAMONA KILU and Dr. S. PERRINEAU).

The department has recognized expertise in the management of people living with HIV (cohort of 1,000 patients, Dr. P. de Truchis), severe bacterial infections, infections on equipment, infections with highly resistant bacteria, infections on fragile sites, and infections in disabled people, especially those with spinal cord injuries.

Many specialized consultations are offered (Dr. Schmit, Dr. Landowski), notably for international vaccinations (yellow fever), fever on return from travel, accidents involving exposure to blood and biological fluids, vector-borne and Lyme diseases, and infections with intracellular and intra-tissue bacteria.
