Service of Neuropediatrics

The Neuropediatrics Department at Hôpital Armand-Trousseau cares for children and adolescents with neurological pathologies:
- affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, neuromuscular junction or muscles.
- revealing acute or chronic symptoms (developmental or progressive diseases);
- acquired or of genetic origin.

The department also treats pregnant women (fetal neurology, prenatal diagnosis).

On the other hand, the department does not treat learning disorders, attention deficit disorders with or without hyperactivity (ADHD), or migraines.

The department has a specific activity focused on rare diseases, organized within labeled Centre de Référence-Maladies Rares (CRMR):
- Neurogenetics (ataxias, spastic paraplegias, abnormal movements/dystonia, leukodystrophies and other progressive diseases affecting the central nervous system) (constituent site),
- Lysosomal diseases (coordinating site),
- Juvenile Huntington's disease (constituent site),
- Neuromuscular diseases North/East/Ile-de-France (myopathies, neuropathies, myasthenias, spinal muscular atrophies, arthrogryposes....) (constituent site),
- Intellectual Disability of Rare Causes (constituent site),
- Congenital Malformations and Diseases of the Cerebellum (2M2C) (coordinating site, Dr L. Burglen, genetics),
- Epilepsies rares (competence site),
- Neurofibromatoses (competence site),
- Maladies Inflammatoires du cerveau de l'enfant (MIRCEM) (competence site).

The department is also recognized for its expertise:
- in fetal neurology/prenatal diagnosis of neurological disorders,
- screening and management of phenylketonuria,
- in the management of neurological disabilities including polyhandicap.

The department participates in specific national and international registries and clinical trials concerning rare diseases.

The department collaborates with specialized adult services to facilitate the child/adult transition.
