Service of Pain and Palliative Medicine
The department's activities
The Pain Medicine - Palliative Medicine department at Lariboisière - Fernand-Widal Hospital (also acting at Saint-Louis and Robert-Debré) comprises two functional units:
A unit specializing in pain management, assessment and treatment
- 20 weekly consultations and a daily inpatient visit,
- Participation in all meetings organized at the request of the hospital group's clinical departments and other AP-HP establishments,
- Participation since 2008 in the "Lutter contre la Douleur" healthcare network, the aim of which is to ensure continuity of care and follow-up.
The Pain Medicine unit's areas of activity
- A consultation area including an outpatient room,
- A hospitalization area including 4 beds for etiological assessment, technical gesture or multidisciplinary management,
- An operating room,
- An X-ray room.
How it works
Patients must have a referral letter from their GP.
The CETD provides more than 2,400 medical consultations a year:
- more than 800 cs pain nurses
- more than 500 cs psychologist ( only for patients followed at the CETD)
Including specialized consultations of external electrostimulation ( TENS), hypnosis, auriculotherapy for analgesic purposes, botulinum toxin injections.
Follow-up of inpatients in day hospital (Qutenza placement, ketamine infusions, check-ups) around 33 patients per week, and 4-bed weekday hospitalization (ketamine infusions, tricyclics, check-ups).
It also provides advice to hospitalized patients at the request of departments, and participates in consultation meetings at the request of departments.
The department also offers a "pain" therapeutic education program that patients can take advantage of at the request of their referring physician, and collaborates with patient associations.
It plays an active role in the clud , in drafting pain management protocols, participates in the "fight against pain" network and provides institutional training for caregivers
A mobile palliative care team (EMSP)
- Created in August 2004, it responds to requests from departments concerning patients who require palliative care, whether or not they are terminally ill.
- The mobile palliative care team (EMSP) is also available for families.
The mobile palliative care team's areas of activity
- A consultation area,
- A space for welcoming families.
The mobile palliative care team is characterized by its transversality, leading it to intervene in all of the hospital's clinical departments.
Equipe Mobile de Soins Palliatifs (EMSP)
- Travail en partenariat avec les équipes soignantes la sollicitant, pour faire face aux problèmes liés à la prise en charge globale des patients
- Evaluation et contrôle régulier des symptômes,
- Soins adaptés à l’état de santé du patient,
- Ecoute et soutien du patient et de son entourage confronté à la crise de la fin de vie,
- Accompagnement humain, spirituel et religieux pour le patient, pour la famille et à leur demande.
Compétences et expertises
- Prise en charge des douleurs neuropathiques périphériques et centrales
- Migraines, céphalées, AVF
- Névralgies du trijumeau
- Prise en charge des douleurs chroniques non cancéreuses (céphalées et douleurs oro-faciales, douleurs neuropathiques, lombalgies et lombo-sciatalgies post-chirurgicales) ou liées au cancer ou au sida ,
- Participation active au comité de lutte contre la douleur (CLUD) ,
- Participation à la mise au point de protocoles standardisés pour l’évaluation et la prise en charge des douleurs, de protocoles de soins chez les malades hospitalisés.
