Service of PAIN ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT CENTER
Missions of the Centre d'Evaluation et de Traitement de la Douleur (CETD)
The Centre d'Evaluation et de Traitement de la Douleur (CETD) at Ambroise-Paré Hospital, headed by Professor Nadine ATTAL, is dedicated to the assessment and management of chronic pain. It carries out more than 5,000 consultations a year, provided by a team of doctors, a psychologist and two nurses.
The CETD is also an accredited training center for the Specialized Transversal Pain Training (FST Douleur), for interns in general medicine (Stage Ambulatoire en Soins Primaires en Autonomie Supervisée) and for the "Evaluation and Treatment of Pain" medical degree.
Functioning of the Pain Assessment and Treatment Center (CETD)
The first consultation at the CETD is carried out exclusively at the request of a physician. Its purpose is to assess chronic pain in terms of its various sensory and emotional dimensions, as well as its functional impact and impact on quality of life, to confirm if necessary the diagnosis of the nature of the pain, and to propose a course of treatment adapted to the patient. This may or may not require several specialized consultations at the Center, a psychological or psychiatric evaluation, and a functional assessment.
Care offered by the Pain Assessment and Treatment Center (CETD)
The CETD care offer is tailored to the nature of the pain and may include: one or more therapeutic information sessions face-to-face or in the form of video modules, pharmacological treatments, biofeedback, cognitive behavioral therapy management, neurostimulation techniques (transcutaneous electrical stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation or rTMS), complementary pain management techniques (hypnosis, relaxation, acupuncture).
The CETD also has a day hospital where certain specialized therapeutic procedures are carried out (analgesic infusions, capsaicin patches, botulinum toxin injections).
Research
The CETD is attached to an INSERM unit (U 987) headed by Dr BOUHASSIRA, and thus participates in numerous research protocols on the assessment and treatment of pain.
