Service of Physiology and Functional Explorations at two sites of the Ambroise-Paré and Bicêtre hospitals

The Physiology-Functional Explorations Department at Ambroise-Paré Hospital (Aile C, 7th floor) comprises 3 areas of activity for children and adults (functional respiratory and exercise explorations; consultations, hospitalization and sleep explorations; neurophysiology and rTMS).

- Functional Respiratory Explorations (breath measurement "EFR", bronchial reactivity tests under the effect of medication or muscular exercise "bronchial provocation test", recording of breathing and exhaled carbon dioxide before and after voluntary increase in breathing "hyperventilation test", measurement of oxygen and carbon dioxide pressure and blood acidity "blood gas") in children and adults.

- Recording of respiration, skeletal muscle and cardiac activity, oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production and blood acidity during progressively increasing and maximal muscular exercise "Explorations Fonctionnelles à l'eXercice or EFX/VO2max with measurement of gas exchange".

- Sleep Center (consultations, recording of nervous system activity using electrodes and sensors during the day "tests to maintain wakefulness" - day hospitalization and explorations of nocturnal breathing at home "ventilatory polygraphies").

- rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), study of nerve and muscle response obtained using electrodes on territories to be explored after transcranial magnetic stimulation "Motor Evoked Potentials".

- Neurological Functional Explorations (electroencephalogram or recording of the brain's electrical activity using scalp electrodes "EEG"), in children and adults (intra-hospital emergency requests only).

- Electromyogram or recording of muscular electrical activity using electrodes on the territories to be explored "EMG" in children and adults.

The Physiology Functional Explorations Department at Ambroise Paré has a routine care unit, unique in the AP-HP, of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for the management of chronic pain patients. The department is also one of 8 AP-HP sites authorized to evaluate respiratory insufficiency (ARS).

At Ambroise-Paré Hospital, respiratory function tests are now automatically integrated into the Orbis medical record. Results are retrieved directly from the software. Thanks to this system, which is unique at AP-HP, results are available to all patients in their digital space on the AP-HP website

This department is attached to the medical-university department (DMU) n°5 "Thorinno".
It participates in the "Direct AP-HP" program.
